My palette of movement and choreography is articulated for the curious eye. I withhold artistic preferences that enthrall sensations of mystery, perspicacity, and colloquial narrative. With my choreography geared toward audience understanding, I invoke you to question the contrast between literalism and symbolism and test your ever-evolving perception. With themes of human development, femininity, and the abstract, I yearn to extract sensible human experiences from myself and others I encounter. Narratives are simply the frameworks from which I take inspiration and transverse into art.
I enjoy choreographing on vast ranges of group sizes, from large ensembles to solos, and further aim to amplify dancers’ individuality through guidance. I believe that every dancer has a story that can prevail through the complexity of dance, and further inspire notions of self-worth and self-betterment. With this focus on the individual dancer, I also hold the priority of maintaining physical wellness and upholding safe dance practices. My understanding of human anatomy allows me to choreograph with empathy, honoring both the capabilities of the physical body and the intrinsic self.
Stylistically, I move in exploration. Initiation and isolation are two concepts that sit comfortably in my choreography but remain not limited to. Utilizing post-modern dance movement with emphases on contemporary, jazz, ballet, and improvisation, I choreograph sinuously, weaving in and out of the floor, partnering the earth, the space, and each other. The variety of textures I present sprouts from my interests in the Gaga Movement Language, Laban movement efforts, and my own collision of concert and competitive dance worlds.
As a choreographer, I am eager to grab audience members’ attention and challenge their perspectives; as a human, I am impassioned to encourage today’s dancers and enlighten self-liberation through my choreographic processes.
